Created in the 19th century, this traditional winemaking estate was fully refurbished in 1996.
The vineyards spread out on limestone-claysoils over around thirty five hectares around the estate buildings, in the Aspres region to the south of Perpignan between sea and mountains, near Spain.
We use the eco-friendly vinegrowing and tending techniques, which leave room for traditional methods and include shallow-ploughing between the vines. In respecting the environment, we keep yields down and quality up.
Next to the "classical" grape varieties that we grow within the AOC area ( Carignan, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Grenache Noir ) , we tend improving varieties outside the appellation area that include Syrah and Mourvèdre as well as Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon.
We vinify and mature our wines in our own cellars, keeping respect for wine tradition at the forefront of our actions.
The passion that motivates us and the painstaking care we take over our work on a daily basis, bring you cuvées that brim with finesse and subtlety and contained strength in turn.
Our museum of Wine , Vines and Tradition
From the soil to the bottle....
To round off your visit to Chateau Montana and discovering or renewing your acquaintance with the great wines crafted here , we have created a vine and wine museum in one of the Chateau outhouses .
This museum pays homage to the men and women who, though the ages, have developed and innovated techniques that amplify our pleasure.
A modest sum will take you on a time trail to see forgotten artefacts.
The vineyards put their stamp on our countryside, add zest to our lives and it is fitting to pay them homage.
Patrick Saurel made bringing this museum to life possible.
There are two exhibition rooms covering over 200 m2, the first concentrates on artefacts and tools, while the second is the reconstruction of a post-war cellar.
There is something for everyone at the museum of Wine, Vines and Tradition, whether you know very little or a lot about wine.
