The 19 towns

The name Passa comes from Passus: place of passage

This village was crossed by Annibal, and later, by Charlemagne. The legend says that Charlemagne stopped his troupes in two different areas in the village. All the soldiers were searching for some water, without success, until one of them planted his sword in the dry soil of the river. Water sprung out and they all were able to drink.

To marque his gratitude, the emperor asked for a chapel to be built there.

But the village is mainly linked to François Jaubert of Passa; hydrologist and distinguished archaeologist, friend of Mérimée.

The Monastir del Camp was classified as a historic monument in 1862 by François Jaubert. It is located near the village; a walk brings you to the beautiful chapel of Saint Luc from the fourteenth century, place of pilgrimage.
